...simply because these basic set of guidelines are NOT tight enough for financial comparisons. The 4C’S do not address a stone’s beauty, light performance or its desirability. Today, diamonds are too often sold & purchased based on their 4C’S leaving you unable to separate average from premium cut diamonds.Harold Stevens has never bought a diamond based solely on its grading certificate, and neither should you.
We are fanatical about the diamonds we select for our customers. With 37 years of international buying experience and the tools to assess diamonds we still refrain from buying a diamond without examining it first.
We meticulously search for the absolute best Clarity within a Clarity grade. The same standards are applied for Color, and for Cut grade. Guaranteed.
For example, some SI2 clarity diamonds are much better than others. Why? The type of inclusion (white feather vs black pique) location of the inclusion (middle of table, or off to the side) can vary greatly and will affect a diamond’s light performance, and its value. This is the essence to the Art of Selection.
A diamonds light performance is measured and analyzed in great detail.
Measuring a diamond’s light performance is a critical step in our selection process.
We measure a diamond’s light performance on four parameters.
refers to the intense bright light
that shines from the diamond.
the vivid colors of the rainbow that
radiate from within the diamond.
the dramatic flashes that burst
out of the diamond as it moves.
the equal distribution of light
that reflects from the diamond.
Once all four parameters are measured separately and given their own grade, a separate measurement of each light parameter is then calculated, and a combined total grade is assigned known as light performance.
Harold Stevens Studio diamonds are available in Ultimate & Premium grades, whereas, the majority of loose diamonds sold today fall within the Classic to low range. Ultimate & Premium light performance grades are exclusively found in loose diamonds containing; GIA /AGS certifications with cut, polish, and symmetry grades of very good – excellent/ideal.
